So the title of this post is semi-misleading. I actually have been running recently. A lot more regularly than past weeks. I got in a 10 miler last weekend that went well. I didn't do a long run this weekend, but I'm trying to convince myself to go do any amount of miles in the next little bit tonight. We'll see if that actually happens. Seeing as how I have a half in two weeks, I should be more diligent. But, as I've said, I'm treating this strictly as a fun run. (PS you can still sign up here: http://detroitwomenshalf.com/). For that reason, if I'm not following a true schedule or anything. However, I do still plan to do some semblance of one last long run next weekend.
So, what else have I been up to besides running? Good question. Mostly work and school. I'm taking 11 credits this semester, but so far it's going surprisingly well. I've taken 3 quizzes and aced all of them. I'm really hoping that indicative of what the rest of the semester holds. I'm trying to be proactive and do as much homework and studying as early as possible. Less stress that way too.
Though I've had plenty of work and school to keep me busy, I've somehow found plenty of time to do other things like -
Watch an obscene amount of TV
My current picks? The last season of Breaking Bad (okay, truly EVERY season of BB is my pick). This season is a slow burner and I know it will just add up to craziness. I can't wait for Sunday to hit. I anxiously watch every episode. I was trying to find a good meme for this season. I didn't find a "good" one, but I found one that made me (and Ryan) laugh:
Clearly not what his moment of clarity is, but I like it nonetheless.
I'm ashamed to admit that I've also taken to watching an immense amount of Say Yes to the Dress. It's so melodramatic and over-the-top, but I love to check out the dresses. I usually hate them, but fun to see what other people pick. Recently Buzzfeed had an article about why people love the show and this gif had me cracking up:
She is sooooo excited to have pockets for snacks.
Let me be clear, I don't actually want pockets for snacks in my wedding dress but the idea of it is kind of awesome. I've jokingly been telling Ryan I'll have pockets so that I can sneak him snacks during the ceremony. Sounds like a win to me.
Speaking of the wedding,
We've got our ceremony and reception site booked. We have a DJ. We've done an initial tasting of food and have a rough menu. We have our save the dates - now we just have to address and send them. I won't show you our actual ones (Ryan says it ruins the surprise), but here are a few pics from the shoot. Ryan's mom took them and I'm so happy with them. She did an amazing job!
Sometimes we actually like each other ;)
Making my own stuff
I got a food processor for my birthday (thanks mom!) and made my own peanut butter. It turned out pretty well. I've used it on its own and in a recipe. I used it to make my new fav snack for school:
I loosely followed this recipe: http://powerhungry.com/2008/06/homemade-cliff-bars-no-bake/ except I used pumpkin seeds and cranberries in it. I ended up baking mine for 20 mins at 350 as well because my peanut butter wasn't quite as sticky on its own. I can't wait to make some other variations - I'm thinking with dried blueberries, flaxseeds, almonds, and maybe some coconut shavings.
I'm definitely trying to make more of my own goodies. Even if they aren't the best for you, I'd rather have stuff that I know and can pronounce all the ingredients than buy it and have a million unrecognizable ingredients. So, if you have any good recipes to share as of late, pass them on!
Okay, I'm off to pretend and be productive. In the meantime, let's chat:
-Anyone else participate in football fun today? Go to a game? Tailgate? Watch at home with all the bad-for-you but oh-so-yummy snacks?
-Who else is loving the anticipation of Breaking Bad this season? (side note: Jesse aka Aaron Paul needs an Emmy) Any other shows you're loving? (second side note: if you need another addiction, watch Orange is the New Black on Netflix).
-Any other Say Yes to the Dress lovers out there? Or if not, any embarrassing shows you love to watch?
-Tell me how you're training is going! Big races coming up?
