We hopped on side by side mills and got to it. I wasn't totally feeling it today, but managed to bust out 2 miles in 15:35 at 1% incline. RunnerSis was still doing her miles, so I opted to restart and do a different workout on top of it. I did an incline walk starting at 8% for a few minutes, then would run at that incline for about a minute and half. I would back it down and do it at 3% and repeat the pattern. I upped it 10%, repeat. Down to 2%, repeat. Up to freakin 15%, repeat (so.not.fun), then finally finished with 0% incline which earned me doing 1.2 miles in 14:15. It was a nice little challenge and a nice mix-up from the normal mill run.
After RunnerSis finished 3 miles, we did a few weights before heading home. Unlike Ryan, she willingly took her pic outside the gym. Yes, we're nerds:
Hi RunnerSis!
It felt nice to be done with my workout midday on a weekday. So what else did I do with my day? Oh, you know, just put my name in the hat for the NYC marathon! I figure, why not? It's a small chance, I get that. It's pricey, I get that too. I look at it as a once-in-a-lifetime thing. In my very favorite city, in the fall.
To me, you're worth all your pricey glory.
The downside? They don't draw until the end of April. That puts me in a bit of a quandary. It means I have to put other fall races on hold until I know for certain or at least other fall marathons, that is. However, I still maintain - so worth it. I mean, just look at this -
How can you argue with Central Park in Autumn? You just can't.
Ryan is less than thrilled with the price. Who am I kidding? So am I. However, he said if I were to get in, he'd be pretty pumped to go to NYC in the fall too. It's a double-edged sword, really. But, I'm still crossing fingers and toes :)
In addition to trying to throw money around like it's nothing, I worked on making a new blog header (Ryan doesn't love it, but I got sick of the old pics. We'll see if it stays). I also created an About Me page and updated my races thus far for 2012! Take a look! In the midst of this, I was messaged by a friend from Lifetime who just started a blog and was looking for advice. I have little to offer in the blog advice department, but tried as best as I could to help her out. I also told her I would show her some love and send you guys her way. Her name is Steph and she really wants to be held accountable for getting back into running and fitness. I know you guys will help keep her on track, so head over to her blog and say hi! Running High Five.
Oh, and guess what? Today is a certain someone's birthday! This pretty lady!
Erika! Happy birthday to one of my very favorite people! Despite being thousands of miles away, I know we'll celebrate soon and have plenty of fun :) #virtualHug. You know you need to head over and tell her happy birthday!
Tomorrow I'm back to working normal hours, eek. I have no idea how I'll survive! Here's to hoping I make it through the rest of the week without becoming a zombie ;)
Let's chat, shall we?
-Have you seen a surge in gym goers? Annoyed by them? My main thing is the people who are clearly staying on their machine for over an hour walking at 1.0 just to talk to their friend and are completely oblivious that others are waiting for them to be free!
-What makes it 'worth it' to you to pay for a pricier race?
-Did you work today? If not, what'd you do?
-How has your 2012 started? In the right exercise direction?
Megan

Love your new header! I'm working a few blog tweaks myself…. And I love, love, love that you are already planning on a fall marathon :) You go, girl! Bayshore is just the beginning! I will be sooo jealous if you get in, that will be awesome!
ReplyDeleteWe drove past the first gym, saw the parking lot was completely packed, on our way to the Y to swim (we belong to both 'cause we're cool like that--and the closer in one is dirt cheap and good for weights). Anyway, got to the Y and both parking levels were full. So we turned around and drove home. Did an outdoor run instead. It was annoying but we found something else to do so it all worked out.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I didn't work and I've been LAZY! I did a 3.4 mile run and promptly had a slice of pizza, mid afternoon beer, watched a hockey game, cuddled my puppy, played on twitter...so not what needed to be done! I hate gym people in January, I like to call them January Gym Gems. In light of you listing my pet peeve as your own, I'll add: wearing sea through (meant to be worn as tights not pants) leggings and thongs that are clearly visible through said leggings.
ReplyDeleteAww - thanks for the birthday wishes!! I appreciate it :)
ReplyDeleteI did a treadmill run today because it was still dark outside! But it was alright!
Haven't been to Lifetime yet but not looking forward to it - it's always way too crazy this time of year.
Good luck getting into NYC! I wish it wasn't so close to Ironman or I would be there with you!
That would be so awesome to get in for the NYC Marathon! It is pricey, but what a great marathon!
ReplyDeleteI HOPE you get in for NYC that would be amazing :))))))))))))))))))) YAY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the NYC lottery! I hope you get in!! I agree it's a once in a lifetime thing, so I would pay for it once.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out! Your blog has inspired and motivated me fo' sho'!
ReplyDeleteFor me, unique events/destination events are worth the price. There are so many I want to try, so over the past few years, I have been very specific about which destination event I will go for and then make that my ONE.. BIG.. destination event for that year. I think I'm heading to Denver for the Rock N Roll series in September...mile high fun!
I was thinking about throwing my name in the lottery, but then I started adding up the costs: entry, plane ticket, hotel, food, etc. I can't afford that this year. So I'm looking for a local fall marathon for me :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to the gym yet, but I'm afraid it's going to be stupid busy and yes, I will be annoyed. :)
No gym for me. Running outside in this crazy cold. I'd love to do NYC but opted to do a Michigan marathon instead. I'm thinking next year for NYC if I can get in. So you're going to do two marathons in one season, huh? Nice.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely see the surge in gym goers. Even at the early hour of 5:30! Thankfully our gym is pretty empty even with the new people, so no waiting for equipment usually!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the lottery! The NYCM is such a great race!!
Love the blog updates! I have that on my list of things to do in 2012 too....let's see if I get to it by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteGym goers....so many more! I have been getting to the gym before the Kids' Club opens so my darling daughter can get in! Those 8 spots can fill up quick and I am equally annoyed by moms who spend 2+ hours working out when others are waiting for their kiddos to be supervised so they can work out. But I think that was a school holiday thing....or a new year thing....who knows.
I will pay for location.....or to meet someone really cool. I really did bite the bullet and pay more for race entry, travel, and hotel last year to meet Dean Karnazes. What can I say?
Working today....so very sad and it is the last day of school break. I didn't want to work.
2012 has started off wonderful with running! Bad news at the end of 2011 turned into a blessing as it forced dear hubby and I to face things that have been "ignored" and we are off to a nice healthy start!
Love the new header! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have run 2/3 days now and I don't belong to a gym...plus your header is FUN!
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, I've so far done all the things I said I would do in January (running every day, eating mostly fruits & veggies, drinking lots of water). On the not-so-plus side, I'm coming back from 4 weeks of no running at all, which suuuuuuucks. I can't say I blame new runners for giving it up after a few days.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the NYC marathon! I really hope you get in!
